Who we are
Rescue Dogs For Heroes
Established in 2023
Welcome to Rescue Dogs For Heroes!
While our non-profit organization may be newly established, our team boasts over 20 years of invaluable experience in dog training through our for-profit business. Over the years, we've rescued numerous dogs, providing them with medical care, training, and loving forever homes whenever the need arose. Our commitment to serving heroes was further exemplified by our previous program, 'one lucky dog,' where we annually offered a free service dog to a deserving veteran. It's through these endeavors that Rescue Dogs For Heroes came to fruition, driven by our passion for supporting both our brave service members and their loyal canine companions.
Meet Our Military Adviser & Liaison
Shawn Linhares- Major (RET)
Major (RET) Shawn Linhares, serves as the Military Adviser/Liaison for Rescue Dogs For Heroes. He dedicated over 20 years of his life to serving his country in the United States Army. Over the span of his service he deployed four times in total to Afghanistan and Iraq, while serving in multiple roles such as a Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Personal Security Officer and a Platoon Leader. His unwavering love for both his country and his military role shaped his identity and defined his purpose. Through his extensive military service and deployments, Major Linhares undoubtedly experienced profound moments of challenge, growth, and sacrifice, leaving an indelible mark on his life and character. However, alongside these experiences came the invisible wounds of war, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which severely impacted his life. The debilitating effects of PTSD, including intrusive memories, emotional numbness, and hypervigilance, challenged Major (RET) Linhares on a daily basis, affecting his relationships, work, and overall well-being. It was during this difficult journey that Major (RET) Linhares discovered the transformative power of service dogs in providing comfort, companionship, and support during his darkest moments. Inspired by his own struggles and the positive impact of service dogs on his life, Major (RET) Linhares is driven to give back to his community of fellow veterans who may be experiencing similar challenges. He understands firsthand the isolation and despair that can accompany PTSD and is passionate about providing resources, support, and hope to those affected. Through his dedication and advocacy, Major (RET) Linhares seeks to create a more compassionate and understanding environment for veterans struggling with PTSD, ensuring that no one faces these battles alone.
About Our Founders
Meet Our Team
Co-founders Brad and Jamie Norton embarked on their journey in the dog training world with a shared passion for helping both dogs and people. With over 25 years of experience, Brad's expertise in dog training has been instrumental in shaping Norton Dog Training into what it is today.
Their dedication to the welfare of animals extends beyond training of dogs; Brad and Jamie have rescued numerous dogs over the years, providing them with the necessary care and training before finding them loving forever homes. They've even extended their generosity to individuals in need of service dogs, often offering free or discounted training to those unable to afford it.
In 2017, Brad and Jamie initiated the One Lucky Dog program, providing free service dogs to veterans in need. Despite its success, the program's annual limitation was clear due to the significant financial commitment required. Recognizing the growing demand for service dogs and fueled by their desire to give back, Brad and Jamie launched Rescue Dogs For Heroes.
